Sadly, since election day, the happy wedding scene seems to have shifted to the tone of Miss Havisham's eternal bridal suite...

I envision Portia, Ellen, Melissa, and K.D. passed out in the wedding punch, and Elle Wood's pink chihuahua tunneling through a cobweb-covered wedding cake with plastic models of Adam and Steve upended on the top...

But all is not lost, prenuptial gays of California- you still have Massachusetts- and with an economic meltdown and pending ban on greyhound racing, there's lots of space for slot machines and drive through wedding chapels- it's Mitt Romney's worst nightmare and a revenue solution all in one- the Bay State as Gay Vegas!

(And since Connecticut will soon turn Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun into hotbeds for such things with table games and the chance to see Patti Lupone in concert, the clock is ticking...)

The transition to "normalcy" definitely takes the fun and exotic flair out of gayness, don't you think?

Kudos for your activism and commentary. I'm sure it ain't easy with a hangover.

And you really think Florida will be last? Umm.... WYOMING?

I've been questioning the banality of same-sex marriage lately.

way, way back in the olden days, rechy enjoyed being a 'sexual outlaw' because it made everything dirty and exciting .. but the getting rounded up every weekend and thrown into the back of a paddy wagon part wasn't that fun.
the white-picket fence stuff has always been available, but you were the weirdos down the street that everyone whispered about.. and you had NO LEGAL RIGHTS.
as gay people have become a more accepted part of the mainstream, perhaps we have lost some things, but we are gaining so much more. we're no longer some weird creatures lurking in the dark, but are being brought back into the human family with all the same rights and responsibilities as everyone else. now, when gay folks are getting pressured with "when are you getting married ?" questions, they can actually marry a GUY ! (or girl, as the case may be) and that's a pretty amazing change in my lifetime.
